“This was accessible to the public on the MACC website under ‘Name and Shame’.”
Not surprisingly, added Lim, not a single one of the over 700 names on the MACC’s “Name and Shame” website, however, could have caused Malaysia to be named to the third place for the world’s “worst corruption scandals in 2015.”
This means that the person who should lead off the MACC’s “Name and Shame” website was none other than Prime Minister Najib Razak because of his twin mega scandals, which have brought unprecedented shame and dishonour to Malaysia, charged Lim.
The DAP veteran wants to know whether the MACC will rectify its website and add Najib’s name to its “Name and Shame” listing. “In fact, placing Najib at the very top of the list, as no one in Malaysia can come near him in terms of the scale and magnitude of the corruption scandals, reflects not only the national but international dimensions as well.”
Furthermore, argued Lim, Najib has also the dubious reputation of being the only Malaysian Prime Minister to be investigated by the US Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) under the US Kleptocracy Assets Recovery Initiative 2010.
Lim was commenting on Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid’ Hamidi’s statement that Malaysia can be among the top 30 of some 200 countries by 2020 as a corruption-free country. “This has been busted by Najib’s twin mega scandals, causing Malaysia to be ranked third among the world’s ‘worst corruption scandals in 2015’.”
“Nobody believes that the goal of Malaysia being among the top 30 out of some 200 countries in the world in 2020, in terms of being least corrupt, was within the realm of reality. It’s not practical.”
When Najib became Prime Minister in 2009, recalled Lim, one of his major policy initiatives was the NTP under which anti-corruption was one of the primary agendas. “Some seven years later, Najib’s NTP has proven to be a great failure.”
“It suffered irreparable damage when Malaysia was named third place in the ForeignPolicy website ranking for the world’s ‘worst corruption scandals in 2015’.”
