PETALING JAYA:
As Malaysia begins the transition into the endemic phase of Covid-19 and reopens to the world, the growing buzz in the economy is that some normalcy is slowly returning during this month of Ramadan.

In a follow-up to the 2021 eBelia programme and continuing efforts to assist 18- to 20-year-old youths and eligible full-time students, the finance ministry-earmarked RM300 million from the 2022 budget and launched the ePemula programme that provides RM150 via e-wallets to youths aged 18-20 years old.

Alain Yee, Head of ShopeePay Malaysia commented, “We are honoured to collaborate with the Ministry of Finance again after a very positive response from Malaysian youths last year.”

This year in addition to the RM150 e-wallet credit by the government, ShopeePay is offering a guaranteed additional RM500 vouchers and a chance to win up to RM25,000 in prizes.

“As a company that puts consumers first, we are constantly innovating to serve our users. Through ePemula, we are happy to be given a chance to encourage more Malaysian youths to embrace going cashless and use ShopeePay to experience the convenience and security that our mobile wallet has to offer,” Yee added.

ShopeePay Malaysia head Alain Yee says the platform will aim to duplicate their success after a good run last year.

Utilising the integration of the DuitNow QR ecosystem, ShopeePay users can now spend their combined RM650 in credits at more participating retailers including but not limited to:

  • Fashion brands JD Sports, Focus Point, Giordano, Elle, Common Sense
  • F&B outlets Taco Bell, KFC, Kyochon, myBurgerLab, CU Malaysia
  • Tech leaders Samsung, Huawei, Switch, Xiaomi
  • Beauty favourites Innisfree, Guardian, Sasa
  • Entertainment giants TGV Cinemas, Redbox, Flyproject, Book xcess, Gamers Hideout
  • Petrol stations Petron, Shell, Caltex, BHP Petrol

Aside from food discounts and free delivery, other ShopeePay exclusive offers also include up to 3% Coins Cashbacks on any offline purchases by scanning any DuitNow QR code.

Yee concludes, “We also believe that the programme will play a bigger role to simultaneously generate economic activity and sales for local merchants and traders. As more Malaysian consumers enter the cashless ecosystem, smaller businesses like convenience stores, local cafes and micro-traders will also see the need to adopt cashless payment methods as part of their operations to ensure that they are not left behind. This digital push will be a win for the country’s digital economy.”
