PETALING JAYA:
Amidst growing demand for healthy food choices in Malaysia, the options for quick and easy meals aren’t as diverse as many would like, especially among lovers of Korean cuisine.

Malaysians also crave healthy, nutritious breakfasts that can be quickly prepared – a luxury for parents, office workers, and others who lead busy lives.

One South Korean company has come up with a solution that addresses both these points. Bonjuk – a renowned F&B establishment with over 2,000 locations in that country – presented its ready-to-eat porridge packets to retailers at the K-Food Fair 2022 on Wednesday.

The trade show, held at the Royal Chulan Hotel Kuala Lumpur featured over 40 exporters and 100 unique products from South Korea.

Bonjuk’s global business representative, Bon World, said it is confident its products will change the mornings of busy Malaysians, boasting that its instant pouches are “all you need to liven up your rough morning, a very brief luncheon, or another tiring afternoon”.

The porridge is ready to eat directly from the packet, providing foodies with the same taste and nutrition as they would enjoy from a Bonjuk restaurant in South Korea. With a shelf life of up to a year, each pouch simply needs to be microwaved for two minutes before being served.

These instant microwavable pouches come in eight delicious varieties. (Bonjuk pic)

The products come in eight flavours that are well-loved by Koreans: tuna and vegetable, seafood and vegetable, sweet pumpkin, seafood, veggie only, sweet red bean, octopus and kimchi, and – its most popular – abalone and mushroom.

The latter is a chewy, creamy porridge with a unique seafood and umami flavour.

Bon World promises that each product contains fresh flavours and balanced nutrition vetted by its recipe team.

Having opened its first restaurant in 2002, Bonjuk has quickly become one of South Korea’s most beloved brands, providing a memorable dining experience to those who crave that traditional delicacy, “juk”.

Since 2006, Bon World has launched over 30 franchise locations worldwide, including in KL.

As of press time, the brand is looking for Malaysian importers and physical retailers for its instant pouches. But fret not, Korean enthusiasts – it is also available via Shopee for RM46 each.
