KUALA LUMPUR:
Since 1985, the month of October has been designated and observed internationally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In Malaysia, breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer affecting women, with one in 19 women at risk of contracting the disease.

While treatment methods are increasingly effective as technology improves, it is still important to support those currently battling the disease.

Among those who support the cause is Hilton Kuala Lumpur via its Pink Ribbon High Tea, available every weekend and on public holidays in October.

As its name suggests, this high tea set is inspired by the iconic pink ribbon that is emblematic of breast cancer awareness.

Hence, each and every pastry and drink available for the high tea is tinged in pink or similar hues, in line with the theme of the month.

In addition to looking pretty, the sweet and savoury treats also incorporate healthy ingredients such as berries and beetroots, both rich with cancer-fighting properties.

Presented in a three-tiered tower of platters, the savoury delights are balanced with sweet pastries fresh from the hotel’s patisserie.

The Salmon Roulade, a slice of fresh Tasmanian salmon encased in wholemeal bread, is quite the tasty little morsel, with the dill cream cheese giving the roulade a burst of richness and flavour.

The warm scones, whether plain or with cranberries, are delicious on their own and even better with a smattering of hibiscus jam. (Muhaimin Marwan @ FMT Lifestyle)

For something a little more French, the Beetroot Flavour Éclair will likely satisfy, with its diverse ingredients creating a mouthwatering combination of tastes. With ingredients sourced from Genting Highlands, this pastry attains the perfect balance of sweet and savoury.

Another French-inspired treat is the delicious and rich On Brioche served with roasted garlic hummus. The brioche is soft and light to the touch, while the cucumber slices and turkey make for a truly delightful treat.

Leaving France to cross the Channel, you have something characteristically English in the form of Freshly Baked Scones, served hot from the oven.

With how soft and warm the plain and cranberry scones are, you can opt to either eat it on its own or with a helping of hibiscus jam.

With these scoffed down, it’s time to sample the sweets. Get ready for those cavities.

First on the list is the Frambiose Vanille, a treat that is as pretty as it is tasty. Raspberry mousse and vanilla pannacotta come together on a biscuit-like base to tempt your taste buds with a lasting sweetness.

Another winner is the Strawberry Ivory Chocolate Popsicle filled with white chocolate mousse and bits of fresh strawberry and chocolate, as well as crunchy chunks of biscuit.

Looking for something fruity? The Berries Pavlova is here to brighten your day, with fresh berries served atop a meringue filled with passionfruit curd.

With its distinctive heart shape, the Diamond Dream doesn’t disappoint taste-wise. Rose bavarios and lychee jelly come together in this treat made with love, and its powerful saccharine notes are testament to that.

Last but not least is the Crispy Hazelnut Choux, featuring a hazelnut mousseline served within a warm craquelin bun.

With so many pink and tasty treats available, the Pink Ribbon High Tea, priced at RM98 per head, is one way to remember October and what the month means to so many people out there.

Hence, if you’re looking to treat a breast cancer survivor to a lovely afternoon out, perhaps head over to Hilton KL for an unforgettable experience.
