In the 1960s, when the space race was heating up, the space age aesthetic was all the rage, as people imagined what a futuristic world would look like.
One café called Homesick Alien attempts to create this futuristic world of extraterrestrials and UFOs with its unique design, colourful lights and memorable décor.

With ‘ball’ chairs and spherical television sets, you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d just wandered onto the set of a cheesy 1960s sci-fi film!
The café is newly opened hence the menu is somewhat limited, although more food items are on their way to planet earth.
In keeping with its space-inspired theme, Homesick Alien’s array of burgers carry interesting names and are shaped like flying saucers. So be prepared for some rather spaced-out but good tasting objects crash-landing onto your plate.

Unlike ordinary burgers that are assembled in layers, the contents of this UFO burger are sealed within the crust, leaving diners with no choice but to take a huge bite for the big reveal.
Well, they look the part, but do they taste the part?
With four flavours on the menu and five more planned, there’s much to choose from.
The cheeky-sounding Prawn Star takes the lead as the café’s pride and joy. Made inhouse, this deluxe burger is a mix of prawn patty, peach, cabbage, cheese and a secret sauce. There’s a salad sprinkled with almond flakes on the side as well as a heap of deep-fried mushrooms, taking the place of the usual French fries.
Even with the generous amounts of cheese, the sweet taste of prawn remains unmistakable, making this burger a pure delight to eat.

If you’re a hard-core carnivore, pick the Beef Khalifa. No expense was spared with the making of this burger, which comes with two homemade beef patties, three slices of cheese, a layer of caramelised onions, pickles, tomatoes and mustard. How can this not be anything but good?
For a light and healthy snack, give The Magic Carpet a go, even if you won’t be swept off on a romantic ride into space with a Disney princess.
What it can guarantee however, is to keep you sated (for a while at least) but not stuffed with its combo of prawn and pineapple served atop a wonton skin, with sweet-sour-salty flavours gallantly combined in a single snack.

Homesick Alien has quite a number of crafted drinks as well and it would be a shame not to try some when you’re there.
Among the most notable is the Yellow Man, a mix of pineapple and mango puree with a hint of spice, courtesy of the cinnamon.
If you’re looking for milder flavours, the Dragonslayer would do the trick. This dragonfruit-grapefruit mix with elderflower cordial is truly thirst-quenching and lip-smacking.

Last but not least is the Orange Goblin, a cheeky fellow with matcha, orange juice and asam boi for a distinctly Malaysian taste.
Speaking to FMT, café founder CK Kam said, “Movies like ET and 2001: A Space Odyssey inspired this café and it’s just a fun and interesting concept for people to enjoy.”
Hence, if you’re feeling a little homesick for the 1960s, maybe hit up Homesick Alien for an out-of-this-world experience.
