Food-wise, kopitiams and hawker centres reign supreme here, with most residents generally content with this arrangement.
However, there is one particular café that has been gaining much attention since opening three years ago, positive attention at that.
Loop Café is a small establishment, literally, as it occupies only half a shop lot with a photocopying business right next door.
It’s quite easy to miss as such but perhaps that is exactly part of its charm – being almost hidden in plain sight.

In fact, its small size contributes to its cosy, clean and comfortable environment, making enjoying a quiet cup of coffee here such a treat.
Interestingly enough, the café organises coffee-making workshops on Sundays, where one can learn the art of the brew, or create adorable foam art.
When here, do try the Rose or Lavender Coffee. As strange as it sounds, a flowery flavour in your coffee works better than you might expect.

Loop Café serves an array of homely fusion food and among their more popular dishes is the Signature Japanese Ebiko Pasta – a cross between Japanese and Italian flavours.
At first glance, pasta topped with shrimp roe, lashings of mayonnaise and sprinkles of seaweed seem an odd combination. But looks can be deceiving, and one forkful of pasta is all it takes to understand why this dish is so popular here.
The ebiko is crunchy with a mildly salty flavour, which blends perfectly with the sweet pasta and savoury seaweed.
If you’re looking for something with a little kick, the Spicy Shrimp Aglio Olio should do the trick. Savoury and flavourful, the Aglio Olio has sufficient spice to complement the lemon zest-infused shrimp.

Next up is the Shan Shan Waffle Burger, apparently beloved by young customers as well as those young at heart.
This dish started ordinarily enough as a dessert waffle, topped with the usual ice-cream and syrup.
However, one thing led to another and out of the metaphorical laboratory came the Waffle Burger, with two waffles playing the role of burger buns.
With a juicy patty wrapped in an omelette and fries on the side, no wonder the kids love this.

With the ongoing craze for all things Korean, it was logical for Loop Café to cater to folks with a hankering for Korean food.
The Kimchi Fried Rice satiates these cravings, accompanied as it is with a generous helping of homemade kimchi.
Sour and spicy being the predominant flavours, this dish comes topped with a fried egg to boot. If you’re not in the mood for rice, opt for the pasta variant instead.
Remember to save some space for dessert – their homemade cakes go nice with a hot cup of coffee or tea.

Speaking to FMT, Loop Café’s founder, Loh Ying Siew, said she walked away from her previous job as a media designer because of her love for coffee.
“With coffee, you can taste so many different flavours from so many different countries,” she said.
Intending to start small, Loh opened Loop Café. And while locals were sceptical at first, good food and better coffee was enough to convince many to become regulars at her place.
Asked if she had any plans to expand to a bigger space, she smiled, indicating that she was in no hurry for this next phase of her business. “Maybe in the future. I will have to plan for that.”
