10 Ramadan bazaars in Selangor worth checking out

With 241 such marketplaces located in the state, there is no shortage of options when it comes to the breaking of fast.

Ramadan bazaars are permitted to operate fully this year – with SOPs in place, of course.

Apart from strengthening faith and familial ties, as well as sharing sustenance, the holy month of Ramadan is synonymous with well-populated bazaars that sell all sorts of cuisine for the breaking of fast.

Here are 10 bazaars in Selangor – out of a whopping 241 Ramadan marketplaces organised around the state – for families and friends to visit as they prepare for iftar. Do bear in mind standard operating procedures and social distancing for everyone’s safety.

1. Section 13, Shah Alam

Everyone in the area knows about Section 13’s Ramadan bazaar, which spans across two parking lots and also offers an organised and secure parking system.

Muslims and non-Muslims alike can be seen visiting the rows of stalls selling foods such as tepung pelita, akok, spicy chicken rice, roasted lamb, roasted chicken, pasta, laksa, and beverages to suit your every fancy.

2. Taman Melawati

Taman Melawati’s bazaar covers a large parking lot and is one of the largest in the Klang Valley. Everything from traditional desserts to roti bom, ayam percik, nasi lemak, toasted tofu, and pasta can be found here.

The bazaar is also known for its nasi kerabu, which is a must-try!

3. USJ 4, Subang Jaya

USJ 4’s Ramadan bazaar will satisfy all your iftar cravings. The aroma of grilled fish that greets you upon entering will definitely stimulate your appetite, and if you’re looking for side dishes to go with that serving of rice, you will surely be spoilt for choice.

4. SS6/1, Kelana Jaya

If you’re at Kelana Jaya’s Ramadan bazaar, you absolutely have to try the Nasi Ambeng, which is served with fried chicken, soy chicken, or beef rendang. Other delicacies to sample are the cencaru sambal, percik chicken, Penang laksa, satay, kebab, grilled offerings, halal Chinese and Indian food, as well as local desserts.

There are also various drink stalls including fresh watermelon juice, which will quench your thirst after a day of fasting.

5. Greenwood, Gombak

This bazaar is frequented by locals who look for unique and tasty dishes to break fast during Ramadan. Culinary highlights here include popia basah, nasi kerabu, grilled fish and chicken, and various types of traditional desserts and kuih.

6. Bandar Baru Selayang

After you’ve had your fill of the awesome rice dishes available here, you must partake of the delicious desserts, which include apam balik, cakes and churros.

7. Section 7, Bandar Baru Bangi

There are several Ramadan bazaars in Bangi, and one of the most popular is located in Section 7. There’s no shortage of food options here – the nasi kerabu, fried chicken, and popia basah, in particular, are not to be missed.

8. Simpang 4, Klang

People have been known to travel great distances to get food from Simpang 4 to break their fast. Patience becomes very much a virtue as long queues are a common sight here – but the mouthwatering fare is definitely worth the wait!

9. Section 17/1a, Petaling Jaya

Not sure what to break your fast with? You will have a virtually endless selection at this bazaar in Section 17, with scrumptious offerings such as roti john, claypot chicken, and tepung pelita for the taking!
