The Year of the Tiger promises a bountiful, auspicious year for everyone. But by the third day, you will probably have had all the Mandarin oranges you can stomach.

If you have oranges left over, why not prepare a delicious Mandarin punch? Packed with vitamin C and hesperidin, a compound that works with vitamin C to support healthy collagen formation, this juice is not only delicious but good for you.

This recipe makes two glasses.

Ingredients

  • 3 Mandarin oranges, peeled and juiced
  • 250ml water
  • 1 star anise
  • 3 slices ginge
  • 1/2 cinnamon stick
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • ice
It’s delicious over ice but can also be served as a warm, comforting drink. (Butterkicap pic)

Method

  • On medium heat, pour the water into a saucepan or pot. Add the spices and bring to a boil. Set aside.
  • Divide the spiced water between two glasses. Add some ice and top up with the freshly squeezed Mandarin juice
  • Stir a teaspoon of honey into each glass and voila! It’s ready to be served.

Tips

  • To stop your juice from being bitter, remove the seeds before juicing.
  • Feel free to experiment with other spices such as cloves.
  • Turn this juice into a warm, comforting drink by serving it without ice.
