KUALA LUMPUR:
Truffles, known as the “diamonds of the kitchen”, are valued for their exclusivity as they are difficult to grow and harvest. The fruiting body of a fungus, they are considered a delicacy in many countries and are highly sought after for their distinct musky flavour and scent.

Now truffle lovers in Malaysia have a reason to rejoice as Caffeinees Group – the team behind establishments such as Chateau De Caffeinees, Yamaguchi Fish Market, and Super F Marketplace – has launched Truffle Chocolate Malaysia (TCM), which offers a range of delectable truffle products including chocolates, spreads, and soft-serves.

During the recent launch of TCM at Chateau De Caffeinees in Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur, guests were treated to a chocolate workshop and got to personalise their own Truffle Nama chocolates.

These creamy chocolates are made with premium truffles imported from carefully selected Italian suppliers, and 80% dark chocolate sourced from Malaysia’s most reputable cacao farmers.

Topped with pure 24-karat edible gold leaves and priced from RM88 per box of six, these chocolates come with a macadamia option and are best paired with a light, fruity wine.

According to June Chang, executive director of Caffeinees Group and TCM managing director, the idea for TCM came about during the movement control orders in 2020.

“When we were all staying at home under lockdown, we requested that our chef surprise us with something unique and exclusively crafted for our family and friends,” she said.

“We wanted to give our loved ones and guests a wonderful and memorable experience… to lift their spirits and let them know we have them in our hearts.”

TCM’s other uplifting items include the truffle butter spread, truffle chocolate spread with 80% dark chocolate, and truffle cream – all made with Italian truffle flakes and priced at RM19 each.

There are also two options of soft-serve: the classic truffle chocolate waffle cone (RM18), and the Ultimate 24k Gold truffle chocolate waffle cone (RM56).

Developed in collaboration with local ice-cream maker Happy Creme, both are rich and velvety with the distinctive hint of truffle, served in crunchy cones trimmed with peanuts. Go ahead and indulge, as these will definitely hit the right spots!

These products are all available at Chateau De Caffeinees, which also offers a drive-through option so you can make your purchase without leaving your vehicle.

Tasting notes

While you’re getting your truffle fix in Kampung Pandan, don’t forget to partake of the mouthwatering fare off the food menu.

Start with the truffle egg on toast served with caviar – a delightful combination of sumptuous scrambled eggs and freshly made grilled bread. The flavours of this simple dish are enhanced by the earthy truffle, which goes splendidly with the buttery brine of the caviar.

Then there’s the crispy chicken with truffle dip. A creamy filling infused with truffle oil and fresh truffles creates a pleasant contrast to the tender meat of the chicken and crunchy skin.

Meanwhile, the croissant with truffle butter is not to be missed. The truffle butter – homemade with just the right balance of truffle oil and fresh fungus – is absolutely addictive. Dab on a generous serving with the French pastry for a simple yet extraordinary gastronomical experience!

Next up, the Hanabi prawn with truffle cream will satisfy both seafood and non-seafood lovers alike. The sweet flesh of the fresh, juicy crustaceans is only augmented by the luxurious sauce.

Round off your meal with a truffle egg tart, which might appear rich to some but is definitely worth a try. The decadent custard filling has just the right balance of sweetness and truffle, complemented by the flaky crust.

If you’re looking for the perfect Chinese New Gift, the limited-edition truffle chocolate cookies might be the answer. (Truffle Chocolate Malaysia pic)

Furthermore, in conjunction with Chinese New Year, TCM is offering limited-edition chocolate truffle cookies made with premium Italian truffles, bamboo charcoal powder and dark chocolate cocoa, as well as an assortment of specially curated hampers.

Prices start at RM168 for the cookies and RM198 for the hampers.
