If you’re the outdoorsy type and find yourself up north, hit the trails towards Bukit Batu Pahat. You can ease your way into the trail at Taman Tasik Millenium, Kuala Kubu Baru (KKB), where you can even go paragliding.
Activities aside, the more important thing about hiking is always the meal after. For this, head past the sleepy town of KKB towards Ulu Yam, and head to Teo Kee Restaurant.
This restaurant came highly recommended by a KKB baker, who said that it’s best to skip the offerings in KKB and make a slight detour to Teo Kee.

Apparently, Teo Kee serves the best stewed pork with mui choy (preserved mustard greens). Who could resist something like that?
Teo Kee is located within a housing area. The restaurant itself is a single-storeyed corner house offering semi-alfresco dining complete with a small, purpose-built kitchen.
The menu is simple yet comprehensive. Though it is in Chinese, there are photos and helpful servers to help you make sense of it.
To be safe, do try four of Teo Kee’s recommended dishes, along with bitter gourd and a roast pork dish. You then either opt for rice or porridge to go with those dishes.
The stewed pork with mui choy was indeed quite special; tender fatty pork with tofu, hard-boiled eggs, and mustard greens that gave it a very balanced taste. It hit all the right sour, salty, savoury and sweet notes.
The braised tofu fish was another delicious dish as it was soft, well flavored, and had just enough ginger to not overpower the seafood.
The steamed salted fish with minced pork was wonderful as well, as the addition of soft tofu gave it a softer texture.

Then there’s the fried spicy brinjal, which is a dish that certainly won’t win any beauty contest, but will win hearts and stomachs with its spicy-sweet flavours.
The last dish, the bitter gourd with roast pork, was tasty even if it lacked the uniqueness of the other signature dishes.
In total, the five dishes, two bowls of rice, porridge and a big bottle of herbal tea cost about RM67.60.
It’s definitely a huge bang for your buck, and certainly a wonderful way to recharge and refuel after a good hike!
