Chicken rice must be one of the most commonly consumed lunches among Malaysian folk, and you can find a stall offering this dish in probably over 50% of kopitiams in the country.
This isn’t exactly surprising, as you get a good combination of protein, some fat, vegetables (cucumber counts, right?), and carbs all in one seating, and usually at a rather reasonable price.
In this article, we take a look at (and get a taste of) one of the most popular chicken rice stalls in Taman Bukit Maluri.

The stall in question is called Fook Loong Chicken Rice, located at Restoran M-Two, just behind the morning market at Taman Bukit Maluri. Bear in mind that this is a non-halal establishment.
The place does get busy during lunchtime, but they are quite a big operation and wait times aren’t usually too much of an issue.
For orders, opt for roast chicken, a medium portion of roast pork and small portion of chasiu to go with rice for lunch.
The roast chicken here is chunky; they’re probably twice the size of your typical KFC meal. The meat was juicy, with skin and texture that doesn’t disappoint.

As far as roast chicken goes, Fook Long’s is pretty decent.
The roast pork was pretty good as well, with crispy skin and tender meat. However, the fatty bits could be softer.
The chasiu will easily be the highlight of the meal. It’s one of the best chasiu with super soft fats and a charred, caramelised outer layer. It’s simply fantastic.
The meal costs about RM71 overall, a pretty decent value for KL standards, and definitely worth a try.
