If you’ve ever wondered what a Candy Crush sweet would taste like in real life, now’s your chance to find out – in the form of pineapple tarts baked by 41-year old civil servant Suzanawati Ali.

Suzanawati, who discovered her passion for baking at 12 years old, began making pineapple tarts in 2012.
She started off by designing them in the shapes of fruits such as strawberries, pumpkin, pineapples, oranges and apples. Before long she had 25 different fruits in her repertoire.
Soon after, she pushed her creativity even further and began making tarts that looked like footballs, tennis balls, seashells and even emojis.

Although her fruit-shaped pineapple tarts were popular among her customers, Suzanawati’s toughest critic made a remark that inspired her to go down the Candy Crush path.
“One day, my daughter told me she was growing bored of my fruit-shaped pineapple tarts and told me to make more unique shapes. The idea of making pineapple tarts shaped like the colourful Candy Crush candies was intriguing,” Suzanawati told FMT.

Creating these mouth-watering Candy Crush-inspired pineapple tarts is a painstaking process as a lot of detail goes into making them.
Suzanawati said the most difficult part was icing the signature white stripes on the candies. “One batch of dough makes about 70 pineapple tarts and icing them can take three whole hours.”

Just as Suzanawati loves spreading joy through her delectable creations, she also enjoys sharing her knowledge and skills. This prompted her to hold baking classes for those interested in learning how to bake pineapple tarts.
Splitting her time between baking and teaching, Suzanawati had her hands full. However, in 2018 her eldest daughter was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare disorder in which the immune system attacks the nerves.

Suzanawati was left with little choice but to discontinue her baking classes so she could focus on her daughter’s physiotherapy. In her spare time, she held online baking classes instead.
“In my online videos, I show my students how to make seven types of fruit-shaped pineapple tarts.”
