Celebrations, in typical Malaysian style, inevitably involve food. To that end, eat x dignity – a transformational enterprise by local NGO Dignity for Children Foundation – is offering a specially curated Christmas meal for dine-in and delivery.
Each order comprises a delicious 25-herb-infused roast chicken with gravy; butter rice with dill; grilled vegetables and potatoes; salad with caramelised nuts; and, for afters, mango panna cotta served with peach.
One meal set can feed between five and eight persons.

“eat x dignity is a social enterprise set up to train and equip the B40 community with practical life skills,” explained Natalie Tan of Dignity. “The café crew work together to come up with special menus each festive season.
“This year, the theme was to celebrate Dignity’s upcoming 25th anniversary. So we came up with the 25-herb chicken – a labour of love and joy.”
The culinary merriment doesn’t end there: Dignity’s other transformational enterprise, bake x dignity, is offering a delectable selection of baked goods, including bundt cakes, shortbreads, and cookies.
Depending on the flavour, the bundt cakes range from RM80 to RM85 each, and the shortbreads and cookies from RM25 to RM33, available in individual cans or as gift sets.

Giving voice to Dignity
Dignity also invites individuals or corporations who wish to share the spirit of the season to engage the Voices of Dignity choir.
The ensemble is made up of 16 carollers who will perform a medley of traditional and contemporary festive songs such as “The Little Drummer Boy”, “Ding Dong Merrily on High”, and “Go Tell It on the Mountain”.
Led by the NGO’s co-founder and chief executive officer, Petrina Satvinder, the choir is made up of children from the Orang Asal, Chinese, and Indian communities in Malaysia, with the youngest being 13 years old.
“When they first joined Dignity, many of them, particularly those from the Orang Asal community, couldn’t speak English. The fact that they can now sing in English fluently is most gratifying,” she said.

The children have been rehearsing since early last month and are looking forward to the opportunity to perform. Each performance will last 60 minutes and comprises a repertoire of eight songs.
“A minimal tax-deductible donation of RM3,000 will be charged for the choir’s performance, which will go towards supporting marginalised children’s education in the coming year,” Petrina added.
