The provocative artist wore the bulletproof vest on Aug 5, during one of the listening parties for his 10th and most recent album, “DONDA.”

According to the New York Times, more than 40,000 Ye fans gathered at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz stadium to hear some of the 27 tracks on the record, named after his late mother, who died in 2007.

Christie’s says the jacket is a metaphor referencing Ye’s militaristic lifestyle, as “seen in his readiness to go on stage and risk his life for his music and his craft,” the auction house explains.

The rapper is said to have written the phrase “My body different” on the back of the vest after his onstage performance.

The lot will go under the hammer in the “Handbags x HYPE: The Luxury Remix” online auction running until December 9 on the Christie’s website. It is estimated to fetch US$20,000 to US$30,000.

While Christie’s did not disclose the provenance of this bulletproof vest, a similar garment was reportedly sold in August for US$20,000 on the Justin Reed sales platform. Ye supposedly offered it to one of the bodyguards present during the “DONDA” listening party in Atlanta, according to GQ magazine.

Other pieces connected to the American rapper are also up for auction during Christie’s “Handbags x HYPE: The Luxury Remix” sale. Among them, a collection of 57 pairs of Yeezy 350s sneakers, made in collaboration with the Adidas brand. It is estimated to fetch between 30,000 and 50,000 dollars.
