After the challenging year Malaysians have had, nothing would be more enjoyable than a night out with good company and uproarious comedy, especially given that restrictions are being eased and live performances are once again allowed.
To that end, comedy queen Joanne Kam is holding her “comeback” show, “Kamthology”, at the recently launched Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Centre at 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Bandar Utama.
Touted as a “fully vaccinated comedy variety showcase”, “Kamthology” promises a night of laughs as she entertains you with her trademark brand of smart, not-so-family-friendly comedy that might include tales of sexual misadventure and awkward encounters with rock-climbing walls.
Accompanying her onstage are fellow comedians Papi Zak, television and radio host as well as brand ambassador for Mr Potato; Netflix’s own Kavin Jay, a rapidfire, grumpy, joke-telling machine; diva queen Bibi K Poh, she of melodic voice and speaker of seven languages; and voice actor-vocal gymnast Steven Bones, the self-proclaimed God of Parody.
Expect parody songs, games, “lots and lots of jokes” – and SOPs, all hosted by pint-sized emcee Terry Ong, who promises not to upstage these comedians with his own wisecracking ways.
“‘Kamthology’ is here to heal Malaysia with laughter,” Joanne tells FMT in an exclusive interview. “We will surprise you, blow your mind and keep you safe.”
End of interview.

Whipped into shape
Terry, who has nearly 20 years of experience as a radio personality, promises a good night out. “If you’ve ever been to a Joanne Kam show, you know it’s gonna be fun and naughty… sooooo naughty!” he tells FMT, spelling out the number of O’s.
“During the pandemic we’ve been mostly connecting on video calls. Now we can finally see how everyone is doing from the waist down.
“Joanne has assembled a motley crew of comedians and whipped them into a show, like the dominatrix that she is. And I get the honour of wrangling this diverse group of talents as the host. Yay, me!”
So much for not upstaging them, Terry.
‘Kamthology’ runs this Friday and Saturday at Stage 1 @ PJPAC, 1 Utama, 8.30pm. Tickets, priced at RM80 and RM100, are available through the OneTix website or by calling 03-77324988.
