Billed as the world’s lightest sustainable bike, this model is largely composed of recyclable materials and is especially easy to transport.
After the trend for bamboo bikes, which are easily recyclable, make way for e-bikes made of flax fibre.
Hummingbird has had the bright idea of proposing a frame made of flax fibre on its new folding electric bike.
And the material’s effect on the bike’s weight is evident, since it weighs just 10 kg, which is virtually a record for a model of this kind.
In addition to its lightness, flax has another property that’s particularly well-suited to bicycles: it’s extremely resistant, as well as being easily recyclable, of course.
For the rest, this bike features a 250W motor and a 158Wh battery, promising a range of approximately 50 km in fully electric mode. Moreover, the manufacturer states that the bike unfolds in just five seconds.
Folding and recyclable, the new Hummingbird ebike has plenty of appealing features, except perhaps its price, set at GB£4,995, or nearly US$5,800.
In addition to the use of easily recyclable materials, the trend today is also and above all for lightweight designs, like the Vello Bike+, in order to make folding bikes easier to carry and help promote their uptake.
The 10 kg threshold seems to have become a goal for many manufacturers.
