Perodua marks 42% jump in vehicles registered

The Bezza model led the pack with 6,808 registered last month, but the Myvi remains the best-seller for the year so far.

Some 6,808 Perodua Bezza cars were registered last month, ahead of Myvi and Axia models.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Perodua’s vehicle registration for August 2022 rose by about 42% to 26,039 units compared to a year ago with better supplies of component parts.

The car company’s chief executive, Zainal Abidin Ahmad, said there was a healthy increase in deliveries for all models, with Perodua Bezza leading the pack with 6,808 units, followed by Myvi and Axia at 6,252 units and 4,857 units, respectively.

“In terms of registration by model between January and August this year, the Myvi is still our best-seller at 48,658 units, followed by Bezza with 39,642 units, and Axia with 37,013 units,” he said.“

“We are currently trying to build on this improvement to ensure speedier delivery to our customers. On the newly launched Alza, we have received bookings of 51,000 units so far, with 7,682 units registered in July and August,” he said in a statement today.

Zainal said the improvement in production and sales came about after some key issues such as the semiconductor chip supply shortage and insufficient labour at the supplier’s operations were resolved.

“We are also closely monitoring the increase in prices of raw materials currently and are working on how best to mitigate this impact on our operations,” he added.

On a year-to-date basis, Perodua recorded a 63.7% increase to 171,728 vehicles registered this year compared with 104,933 units in the same period last year.

However, Zainal said the country was under a lockdown between June 1 to Aug 15 last year, when all non-essential operations were suspended.
