After debuting its first branch at Bamboo Hills in late 2022, popular Malaysian pizzeria Pizza Duo now invites diners to savour its flavours at its new flagship outlet at The Campus, Ampang.
This outlet presents a whole new menu, while maintaining the delicious flavours and friendly dining atmosphere the pizzeria is known for.
“The expanded menu is called ‘Tutto’, which translates to ‘everything else’ in Italian.
“And of course, we wanted to transmit the whole Pizza Duo DNA that we’ve done with our pizzas into new dishes like pasta,” Pizza Duo co-founder Mark Lee told FMT Lifestyle.
“When we have pizzas in Naples or Italy, we also try a lot of good pasta, and we also want to share that with the people who have enjoyed Pizza Duo,” Lee added.
Lee and his wife Aina Ghani are the duo behind Pizza Duo: the two discovered their passion for pizzas on a road trip through Piedmont, Italy, where Lee planned for them to dine at pizzerias rated 90 and above on the Gambero Rosso list, Italy’s equivalent of the Michelin Guide.
After returning to Malaysia, the couple started making pizzas at home after being confined indoors during the pandemic. They would host friends for pizza nights, serving them up to 10 different creations.
Realising this was a serious passion, Aina and Lee travelled to Naples for formal training, working alongside Italian pizzaiolos to master authentic Neapolitan methods, learning everything from dough hydration to oven precision.
The two decided to open their second branch at The Campus after being approached by the management there.
“It seemed very natural for us to open our second branch here. For one thing, we live very nearby, so we definitely know the neighbourhood!” Lee said.
“The Campus is known for championing local brands, and being a proudly Malaysian brand ourselves, we felt that ethos resonated with us, and so we signed on with them pretty early.”
Visitors to the new pizzeria can enjoy a warm and friendly atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for Italian food lovers to savour good times with friends and family.
At the heart of the restaurant are two custom-built Stefano Ferrara ovens, hand-crafted in Naples and shipped all the way here.
The brand’s precision, heat retention and quality is celebrated in the culinary world, and Pizza Duo is the first pizzeria in the country to feature these high-quality ovens.
Food-wise, there’s plenty to enjoy at Pizza Duo. Open your meal with one of the outlet’s many appetisers: the Burrata and Pear Salad packs a light and creamy punch, while the Spicy Eggplant Caponata with Burrata is a vibrant classic brimming with Mediterranean flavour.
Pizza-wise, you can’t go wrong with a Naples staple: the rustic Margherita 2.0 is a simple yet satisfying treat, its San Marziano tomato toppings adding a sweet, sun-kissed flavour to the dish.
If you’re seeking something more indulgent, the Shroomami is an aromatic and earthy delight that truffle lovers will enjoy.
Pasta lovers can either indulge in the delightfully tangy Spicy Crab Arrabiata or the Spiced Duck Rigatoni, with duck chorizo mince tossed in a creamy Rosa sauce.
Or try the Wagyu Sirloin with Orzo, a hearty option that showcases Pizza Duo’s flair for blending Italian tradition with modern finesse.
Complement your meal with a bold beverage from Caffe Duo, the venue’s outdoor espresso bar. Indulge in everything from classic espresso to signature Soda Cremosas and Sips.
Everything at Pizza Duo is made of premium ingredients, the founders explained, and they hope that Malaysian diners will enjoy a little taste of Italy under their roof.
“We always believe in coming with your friends and family. It’s a convivial place to share pizzas and pasta. That’s the kind of vibe we’re trying to push with Pizza Duo. We have something for everyone,” Lee and Aina concluded.
