This simple truth led the husband-and-wife duo to open 54200 Breakfast, a cosy neighbourhood spot in Taman Keramat that’s changing the breakfast scene there.
In an area filled with nasi lemak, roti canai, and other local breakfast staples, this new eatery stands out with its fully western menu. And it’s working.
Since opening in September, the café has attracted not only locals but those from Mont Kiara, Cheras, Ampang – and even those living in Singapore and Brunei!
“Word of mouth just spread,” said Alif, 38. “They said our food, especially our signature dish, was one of a kind. Something that they had never eaten before.”

Alif, who comes from a retail background, and Rafidah, a former flight attendant, have always treasured breakfast time. Every morning, they’d go out searching for something good to eat. “But it was always nasi lemak or roti canai,” Alif recalled. “Western breakfast options were so limited.”
That’s when the idea struck – why not create another option for their own neighbourhood? Something they’d want to eat themselves. They started with a carefully curated menu – simple, but done right.
“My wife, if she does something, she wants it to be perfect,” Alif said, laughing. “She makes sure everything we serve is something we’d love to eat ourselves.”
The most popular item? The Big Breakfast. For RM15, you get sausage, beef bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns, baked beans, and toast – a no-nonsense, classic breakfast plate that hits the spot. “Simple. Straightforward. Does the job,” summed up one happy customer.

Then there’s the chicken and egg english muffin. The magic here is in the details – the muffin is home-baked, with a rich, yeasty flavour that gives it real character. The chicken patty is homemade too, paired with a fried egg for a satisfying bite. Again, simple, but done well.
But the real star has to be the pulled beef brioche bun. It’s generously filled with tender, smoky pulled beef, served on a soft, buttery brioche bun.
“Many people make pulled beef,” said Alif, “but taste-wise it’s different. So when people start eating, they feel like it’s something special.” One bite and you’ll see why – it’s rich, packed with flavour, and just messy enough to remind you it’s worth every bite.
Beyond good food, 54200 Breakfast is about community. The café’s name is a nod to the postcode of Keramat, where Rafidah was born and raised.
“We wanted to offer something different to our neighbourhood first,” said Alif. “We try to give back to the community as well. That’s why our price is not too expensive.”

And the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Regular customers keep coming back, and the café is already eyeing expansion.
“We want to open two more outlets this year,” Alif shared. “But step by step. First, we strengthen our branding. We make sure people really know what we’re about.”
Growth is exciting, but behind the scenes, running a café as a couple comes with its own challenges.
“It’s tough,” Alif admitted. “But we separate work from personal life. If there’s a problem, we sit down and solve it together.”
That teamwork – built over more than a decade of marriage – is what makes 54200 Breakfast more than just a café. It’s a labour of love, and it shows in every dish they serve.
So if you’re in the mood for something different – something made with passion – 54200 Breakfast is worth the visit. Just be warned: that pulled beef brioche might get a little messy… but the good kind of messy!
