While seven restaurants in Malaysia hold coveted Michelin stars, 56 have been awarded the Bib Gourmand – including this North Indian gem, which opened in 2021.
Housed in a cosy bungalow, Roti serves as the flagship eatery of the d’Tandoor brand, which began with its first restaurant in Damansara Utama in 1993.
With 15 outlets across the country, d’Tandoor is recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the nation’s first North Indian cuisine franchise.

FMT Lifestyle spoke to Afzal Malik, chief marketing officer of Roti by d’Tandoor, about being recognised with this prestigious title.
“It was a big deal because Roti is a new identity to us, it has always been D’Tandoor.” He added, “And again, about two weeks ago, we were so happy to share that Roti by d’Tandoor was selected again for the 2025 awards by Michelin Bib Gourmand.”
From starters to mains, FMT Lifestyle sampled many of their signature dishes. Starting with the classic Butter Chicken Masala. The balance of flavours in this dish is spot-on – both tangy and creamy. Pair it with their fluffy naan, and you can’t go wrong.
If you love that, don’t miss the sizzling tandoori chicken, marinated in yoghurt and various spices.
Juicy and smoky, this dish is sure to impress when it arrives on a hotplate, bubbling away. Just be sure to dig in – but don’t burn your tongue!
Afzal shared that one of the restaurant’s key strengths is focusing on authentic dishes. “North Indian cuisine is very diverse, but much of what was enjoyed by royals back then was rich and decadent. That’s what we’ve tried to recreate here.”

Speaking of rich, no North Indian feast is complete without biryani, and this restaurant serves a variety of options.
Their lamb shank biryani arrives in a large claypot. The waiter slices through the seal made of dough, traditionally used to trap steam during cooking.
As the pot is opened, you’ll hear everyone go “aah” and “ooh” as the lamb shank bone sits at the centre, surrounded by fragrant biryani rice. Try not to fight for the biggest chunk of shank!
Another dish worth mentioning is the Bamboo Lamb Biryani, and for FMT Lifestyle, it was the favourite of the two. It comes out steaming from the bamboo, with the aroma filling the room. There is a tender piece of lamb with every bite, and the flavours are perfectly balanced – rich, but not drowning in gravy.
They also offer unique dishes like Tilapia Fish Methi Curry. The creamy, yellow curry, infused with a subtle hint of fenugreek, delivers a rich and aromatic flavour.
The tilapia is so soft and tender, it flakes apart effortlessly, soaking up the smooth, flavourful sauce. This dish is a standout, especially when paired with fluffy basmati rice.
And don’t miss their starters, like the crispy vegetable pakora which was exactly that… crispy!
The Bib Gourmand recognises eateries that offer “value for money,” and Roti by d’Tandoor definitely ticks the box. With generous portions, delicious dishes, and a relaxing ambiance, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a hearty meal.
