This isn’t just any bakery – it’s a tale of transformation that began as a humble family business in the 1970s.
KLCG Confectionery and Bakery started in Taman Midah, with fresh-baked breads made right in the family’s kitchen. But everything changed decades later when they created their signature cronut.
This viral pastry’s success propelled them to new heights, and in 2020, they opened their first dine-in café at the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery in Dataran Merdeka.
The letters “KLCG” in the café’s name remains a tribute to their roots at the gallery, where queues of eager customers wrapped around the block. Fast forward to 2024, and they now operate out of this charming bungalow on Jalan Ampang, KL.

FMT Lifestyle put their creations to the test, and are happy to report that the pastries are as mouthwatering as they look.
The Pistachio Suprême is a crowd favourite for a reason. Flaky, crunchy layers on the outside are paired with a rich pistachio praline crème filling that’s not too sweet. Counting the swirls in this pastry dough? That’s a game you might never finish.
Made with premium ingredients, each pastry is carefully handcrafted. The café’s wooden-themed, open-concept design lets you watch the process unfold – an experience in itself.
The Strawberry & Crème Croissant is another beauty. Packed with a light, airy filling that balances perfectly with the strawberries, it’s surprisingly refreshing despite being rather indulgent. Skip the cutlery – tear into the croissant with your bare hands to reveal a gorgeous honeycomb texture and a surprise pocket of strawberry jam for a tangy twist.

One of their latest menu additions is the Matcha Flower Cup, also available in two other flavours. Made with top-quality Niko Neko matcha, this cruffin – a cross between a croissant and a muffin – is packed to the brim with a rich, creamy yogurt filling. Tear it open, and watch it all ooze out.
Most of their pastries are croissant-based, a notoriously tricky art to perfect. But here, they’ve nailed it – no crumbling mess, no greasy fingers, just the perfect balance.
The business started decades ago with bread as the main offering, so it’s no surprise that they’ve excelled at artisanal sourdough as well.
While you can grab a whole loaf to go, their bread-based desserts are worth exploring – like the honey butter toast. It’s exactly as it sounds: a thick square of bread slathered with honey butter on all sides, baked to a crispy exterior with a fluffy interior, and served with a side of cream.

With so many more unique pastries, cakes and tarts, those with a sweet tooth will be truly spoilt for choice.
KLCG also offers a tasty selection of hot meals. Their artisanal pizzas are truly decadent, like the pepperoni and steakhouse varieties, topped with melty mozzarella. They’re generous with everything at KLCG, so you’re not left wishing for more.
And don’t miss out on their pasta – both the pesto and tom yum are absolute flavour bombs. The classic pesto combines fresh basil, pine nuts, olive oil, garlic, mushroom, and Parmesan for a rich, herbaceous taste. The tom yum pasta, a surprising fusion, features prawns, galangal, zucchini, lime leaf, red chili, red onion, and lemongrass, tossed with spaghetti for a zesty, aromatic kick.
The menu also offers Hainan chicken chop, fish and chips, burgers, and plenty more for the perfect lunch. Make sure to swing by to fill up on their delicious creations.
