Instead, the cheerful woman at the counter said: “No, I’m Shirley Tan and I’m the owner!” So, even though Wong’s story has not thus far panned out, this writer was charmed by Tan’s café.
Don’t let its simple façade fool you: patrons will be spoilt for choice by the tantalising array of cakes, muffins, cupcakes, cookies and ice cream here.
“I use good-quality ingredients. Even though prices have increased, I decided not to look for substitutes as I didn’t want the taste to be affected,” 40-year-old Tan told FMT Lifestyle.
These ingredients, she shared, include Philadelphia cream cheese, French butter and Callebaut chocolate.
Starting her day as early as 6am, Tan bakes all the desserts herself. She also makes various types of “tong sui”, or sweet soups, such as green bean, red bean, black glutinous rice, and bubur cha cha.

The establishment also serves delicious dishes such as fish paste noodles, pan mee, curry noodles, fried rice and char kuey teow, which are made by Tan’s mother, Yap Kon Kim.
Similarly, Tan’s mother prioritises the quality of ingredients, and even makes the chilli paste and fish paste from scratch.
Sweet discoveries
The highlight here has to be the vanilla cupcake with strawberry buttercream frosting. Light and fluffy, the cake is perfectly complemented by the smooth, velvety frosting.
The chocolate macadamia cookie, which comes with a generous amount of chocolate chips, is another delight. Despite its size, you might end up ordering a second piece!

Sink your teeth into the granola apricot cheesecake and you may well sigh in delight as you savour its rich, creamy filling, crumbly base, and a generous amount of crunchy granola, walnuts and hazelnuts.
Other offerings include the carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, moist chocolate cake, and classic butter cake. And that’s not all: there’s also a selection of muffins including banana chocolate chip, almond raisin, and blueberry.
Pair the delectable treats with a hot cup of white coffee for a truly lip-smacking experience!
If you’re looking to cool down on a hot day, Blossom Deli also offers ice cream in various flavours including chocolate, strawberry and durian – all made by Tan, who accepts custom orders for special occasions.

For a heavier meal, the dry pan mee with curry chicken will hit the spot. The homemade noodles have a lovely springy texture that pairs perfectly with the juicy, aromatic chicken and crispy fried anchovies.
The fish paste noodles is another hearty, homey option perfect for a rainy day. The broth is thick and flavourful, the fish paste is fresh, while fried beancurd skin adds a lovely crunch.
For something healthier, go for the chicken and tofu poke bowl. The generous serving is filled with ingredients such as brown and purple rice, chicken, fried tofu, tempe chips and corn, topped with almond flakes.
These come in balsamic vinegar, carrot miso, jalapeno cilantro, and gojuchang varieties, and you can enjoy your meal with two types of sauces.

All in all, with decadent desserts and scrumptious, homey food done right, Blossom Deli Café is certainly worth checking out. Indeed, a closed door can lead to a sweet discovery!
