Yesterday, the 33-year-old did precisely that when he set the Guinness World Record for the “Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Uncle Roger”.
The event took place at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, where he opened his first restaurant in Malaysia, Fuiyoh! It’s Uncle Roger.
His fans came from far and wide, some even travelling from Austria for the event. One fan was seen carrying an A4-sized painting of Uncle Roger while another carried a packet of MSG in support of Uncle Roger’s famous quote: “If you’re sad in life, use MSG. If you’re happy in life, use MSG.”

The crowd cheered loudly when Uncle Roger showed up in the flesh and the excitement mounted when he led them to shout his trademark “Fuiyoh!”
For the adjudication process, Austin Johnson, the adjudicator from the Guinness World Records and a team of local crew counted everyone dressed as Uncle Roger as they entered the counting area.
To qualify, each participant was required to be dressed in a plain orange polo shirt tucked into a pair of black pants, jeans or shorts. Another requirement was a black phone case attached to the hip and to be wearing either black or white shoes.
The minimum benchmark to set the record was 250 participants. When Johnson announced that there was a total of 388 “Uncle Rogers” present, that meant a new world record had been set, and the crowd went wild with excitement.

Among those at the gathering were Adhi Baskara, 27 and his wife Sabilah Margirizki, 26. The Indonesian couple, who currently reside in Malaysia, were thrilled to be part of the record-setting attempt.
“He provides unfiltered comedy and that’s what we love about him,” said Adhi, adding that they became instant fans after watching a video of Uncle Roger criticising a BBC food presenter on how she cooked egg fried rice.
Friends Rex Hoh and Oscar Liew, both 19, were happy to meet other fans of Uncle Roger’s. “I am also planning to try his restaurant after the event, especially his fried rice,” said Hoh.

James Chan attended the event with his daughter, Hayley, 13. “I think he’s authentically Malaysian, just like ‘Phua Chu Kang’ is to Singapore,” said James, 56.
“I hope that there will be more Malaysian talents who can make it internationally,” he added.
Uncle Roger also attempted two other records at his restaurant: “Most eggs cracked with one hand in 30 seconds” and “Most fried rice tossed and caught in a ladle in 30 seconds”.

For the former, the record holder is American Christopher Sanders from Pennsylvania, who cracked 18 eggs on April 29, 2022.
The “Most fried rice tossed and caught in a ladle in 30 seconds” has not been attempted before.
Will Uncle Roger succeed in setting two more Guinness World Records? You’ll have to stay tuned for the results on Sept 29 on Uncle Roger’s YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.
