Whether you’re planning a movie night in with the family or celebrating a child’s birthday, popcorn with gula Melaka and a sprinkling of salt makes for an awesome snack with a delicious local twist.
All you need is some pantry staples – and, well, a trip to the supermarket to buy the popcorn kernels.
But then it’s back to the kitchen and, in under 10 minutes, you’ll have a batch of delicious popcorn adults and kids will love to bits!
Ingredients
- 300g popcorn kernels
- 200g butter, melted
- 50g gula Melaka, grated
- 1 teaspoon salt
Method
- Place the popcorn kernels and 50g of melted butter in a pot. Cover tightly and place on medium heat on the stove. Allow to pop for two minutes.
- When the popping slows down, remove from heat and take off the lid to release steam. Set the popcorn aside.
- Now heat a pan on medium heat and combine the rest of the melted butter with the gula Melaka. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Add the salt and stir well. Let cool for 10 minutes.
- Pour the caramel into the pot of popcorn and stir until it is well combined.
- And that’s it. Pour into a serving bowl, dig in and enjoy!
