At first glance, this seems like any other cosy, family-friendly café, but if you look closely, you’ll find a space where the needs of children and parents are thoughtfully catered for – mirroring the needs of its founders, Melissa Khoo and her husband Lance Cheang.
Khoo, a 43-year-old mother of two and former preschool teacher, didn’t just open a café; she crafted a sanctuary where parents and children can coexist harmoniously.
“We were at a Korean restaurant and we saw a family with three young kids, all glued to their screens, not interacting at all. It made us realise that there just wasn’t a conducive environment for families to connect anymore,” Khoo told FMT Lifestyle, recalling a pivotal moment that sparked the creation of Leetou Pods.

The name “Leetou Pods” has a sweet backstory. Originally intended to be “Little Pods,” Khoo’s son couldn’t pronounce it and kept saying “leetou.” “Pods” came from her daughter’s nickname, “Sweet Pea.”
At Leetou Pods, the non-halal menu offers light snacks for kids and hearty meals for adults. The roast pork sourdough sandwich is a bestseller, and the chicken nuggets, made from real chicken breast, are a favourite among children. With lightly salted dishes, the café ensures healthier options for young diners.
Leetou Pods isn’t just another spot to grab some coffee while your kids run wild; it’s a carefully curated experience that reflects Khoo’s 16 years of teaching experience.
“I love open-ended toys. These toys provoke creativity—they can be used in so many different ways, from building towers to creating train tracks. It’s about letting kids use their imagination,” she said.
The environment is equally thoughtful. From the bright colours chosen by Khoo’s daughter to child-friendly facilities like a nursery room, low sinks, bottle sanitizers, and a Zoom room for private calls, every detail is designed with families in mind.

“We want parents to feel safe and at ease here. Whether they’re working, having a coffee, or just taking a break, they can always keep an eye on their kids without worrying,” she added.
There’s also a little nook with locally published children’s books by Wizards Within for the avid bookworm.
She said many parents have personally thanked them for opening such a space as it allowed them the chance to get their work done while keeping an eye on their kids.
Indeed, this focus on safety and community is what sets Leetou Pods apart from other “child-friendly” venues.
“Our focus has never been on the food,” Khoo admitted candidly. “It’s always been about how to have a proper meal without resorting to phones.
“Here, your kids can make as much noise as they want, and no one will judge you. We’ve created a space where families can connect and where kids can just be kids.”

Leetou Pods quickly became a hub for local families once they introduced special paid events at the café such as the Music and Movement programme on Fridays and Messyplay sessions twice a month.
“Messyplay is all about sensory exploration,” Khoo explained. “We use things like cereals, pasta, and food dye, all of which are edible, so parents don’t have to worry. It’s a chance for kids to get their hands dirty in a fun, safe environment.”
The café also hosts talks on children’s well-being and milestones, further solidifying its role as a community centre for young families. “We’re trying to build a community of young parents around here,” Khoo said.
As Leetou Pods approaches its second year, Khoo and her husband have big plans for the future. “We’re actively looking for new locations,” she revealed. “There just aren’t enough places like this where families can come together without stress. We want to change that.”
