KUALA LUMPUR:
When was the last time you sunk your teeth into a chickpea paneer burger? Or enjoyed a glass of fresh milk free from antibiotics? How about creamy mushroom soup made with buah kulim?

Step into Farm Cafe, a charming retreat nestled beneath the limestone cliffs of Batu Caves for a culinary experience with a focus on sustainability and taste.

From the moment you walk in, you’ll be captivated by the café’s rustic charm. Its location, away from the bustling city and yet easily accessible, makes it a perfect spot for families and food enthusiasts alike.

Opened in 2022, Farm Cafe is more than just a place to eat. It’s a mission-driven venture founded by Dr Manikam Kumarasamy and his son, Poshyan Ganapati.

Their goal is to bring fresh, farm-to-table food to the local community. They want to ensure that every dish is not only ethically sourced, but bursting with flavour as well.

Farm Cafe’s menu lists locally inspired dishes with some creative twists.

Start with a glass of fresh milk, sourced from the owners’ dairy farm in Batu Arang. The milk is creamy and naturally sweet, a taste that store-bought varieties simply cannot match.

Pasteurised using low heat to retain the most nutrients, this method showcases the care and craftsmanship that Farm Cafe strives to put into every product.

But to truly taste the freshness of the ingredients here, try the chickpea paneer burger, a revelation for any burger lover.

The patty, a blend of chickpeas and the Indian cottage cheese called paneer, delivers a delightful texture – crispy on the outside and tender within. Each bite delivers a symphony of flavours from the spices and fresh, crunchy vegetables.

Even if you’re not a fan of vegetarian food, this burger might just convert you.

The nasi beringin, a traditional rice dish from Johor, is one of the café’s bestsellers. The rice, fragrant with aromatic spices, is served with a tender, oven-roasted whole leg of chicken and a cucumber-onion salatah on the side.

Each grain of rice is infused with a medley of herbs, making every mouthful a fragrant, delectable delight. The side of curry gravy adds a spicy kick.

For those who like to have a starter before their main meal, the kulim cream mushroom soup is definitely worth a try. The jungle garlic called buah kulim that it is made from is sourced directly from Kedah. Needless to say, this soup is a comforting embrace in a bowl.

Its garlicky undertones meld seamlessly with the earthy mushrooms, creating a rich, velvety texture. It’s a dish that speaks of tradition and innovation and great taste.

Farm Cafe’s tom yam pasta is an adventurous fusion that pays off splendidly. The tangy and spicy notes of tom yam are masterfully integrated into the pasta, creating a dish that is both comfortingly familiar yet excitingly new.

The al dente pasta absorbs the zesty punch of the tom yam sauce while tender shrimp and crunchy vegetables add depth and variety to the dish.

Ultimately, whether you’re a dedicated foodie or someone who simply enjoys a good meal, Farm Cafe promises an unforgettable experience that goes beyond taste, leaving you with an appreciation for where your food comes from and how it should be enjoyed.
