According to him, his Malaysian fans are the “craziest” and he loves to bond with them.
“When I am feeling low, I always think of my Malaysian fans and it lifts my spirits,” Rahman said at a virtual press conference with members of the media last Saturday.
Rahman is no stranger to these shores, first performing in Malaysia at the Shah Alam Stadium in 1996. His concert in 2023 here saw him performing to a crowd of over 60,000 people.
On July 27, the music icon will make his seventh visit to Malaysia for “AR Rahman Live in Kuala Lumpur,” a concert organised by Star Planet. It will be performed at the National Stadium Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur.
According to Rahman, attendees can expect a fun, high-energy evening of beloved hits, backed up by stunning choreography and cutting-edge audio-visual technology.

Popularly known as “The Mozart of Madras” for his role in redefining contemporary Indian music, Rahman is a renowned Indian music composer, record producer, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.
He began his career in 1992 with the film “Roja” and has since scored songs for many popular Tamil language films, including “Kadhalan,” “Thiruda Thiruda,” and “Gentleman.” The first Hollywood film he scored, 2009’s “Couples Retreat,” won him a Broadcast Music Inc award.
Rahman has gone on to receive many international accolades for his work, including six National Film Awards, two Grammy awards, and one BAFTA. He received Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for his music on the Danny Boyle film “Slumdog Millionaire.”
Rahman revealed that fans could look forward to a three-hour performance, which would comprise 90% of hit Tamil songs from the 1990s and 2000s. There will also be a good mix of classic older songs as well as more recent gems.

Asked about what he would be performing this time, Rahman said he and his team were still curating the playlist. His concerts are also known for featuring many playback singers, and Rahman said he would be revealing his line-up in the run-up to his show.
The singer was also asked which Tamil actor he felt would be the best to play him in a story of his life. After making a joke that using an actor was not necessary in the wake of AI, Rahman said he did not feel it was the right time to make a biopic on him.
“I don’t want to have a biopic now as there already is a book on it by Krishna Trilok. I feel my journey has just started,” he said.
Rahman said he had also spoken to local songstress Siti Nurhaliza, who drove fans wild after performing in Tamil during his concert last year. He remained coy, however, about whether she would be making an appearance again this time.
“Expect plenty of surprises,” Rahman hinted with a smile.
