Divya Nair never expected to fall in love with the husky her best friend adopted. But fall in love she did, and in a big way – his handsome face and friendly nature being just too hard to resist.
That’s why when she heard that this same friend, who had asthma and sinusitis, was giving the dog away, Divya, 22, was heartbroken.
“He went to my best friend’s house thinking that they were going to be his family. But now, he would have to go through another round of adoption,” she told FMT Lifestyle.
So, she volunteered to foster him – after all, she and Loki had already formed a strong bond. It was a brilliant move because it didn’t take long before Loki settled in nicely in Divya’s home alongside her other furry companions, including Ceaser and Jessie.

One week turned to two and later, three. Eventually, Divya knew with certainty that she couldn’t give him up. It did look like Loki had stumbled into his fur-ever home after all.
Today, the handsome two-year-old is a permanent resident at Pooch N’ Floof, a petcare centre in Shah Alam founded by Divya that offers boarding, daycare and grooming services.
A friendly and outgoing “gentle giant”, as Divya describes him, Loki loves playing with humans, other animals, and toys. And needless to say, Divya spoils Loki rotten with a lot of toys.

The dashing Loki also has a girlfriend at the centre – how convenient! “He is always with her. If I bring her out, he makes a fuss about it!” she said.
But it’s not just the female dogs that the dashing pooch has charmed: the cheeky fella has even figured out how to melt Divya’s heart especially when he’s been caught doing mischief.
“If I scold him, he’d come sit between my legs and hang his head down. He sits there until he feels like I am no longer mad at him,” she said. And with such a cute face, she never stays angry for long.

Meal times are the best times for Loki, who loves rice with chicken, carrots and pumpkin. He dislikes kibbles as much as he detests taking showers.
“He complains a lot while I give him a bath and it’s as though I am torturing him!” said Divya with a laugh.
And he’s terrified of vacuum cleaners! The moment his ears pick up the vroom of a vacuum cleaner, he’s off in a flash – in the opposite direction!

When he’s not running away from the evil-sounding vacuum cleaner, Loki loves taking long walks at the park and going on car rides. Truly, it is quite a sight, his head poking out the window with the wind in his face.
For Divya, Loki has been a constant source of laughter and joy in her life. “I think for a person who is going through a hard time or depression, it’s nice to have a dog like Loki. He is a very fun dog to be with.”
