This hidden gem, opened last June, has been quietly enchanting patrons seeking a slice of serenity away from the city’s hustle and bustle.
Driving through the winding paths of Kampung Sungai Penchala feels like embarking on a quest for hidden treasure. Amongst the quaint old houses and dense forest, you might wonder if you’re on the right track. But fear not! Follow the signs guiding you along the dirt path, and you’ll soon find yourself atop this hillside haven.
The atmosphere here is alive with the sounds of nature, and if you look down from Manggis, you’ll be greeted by the sight of the forest stretching out as far as the eye can see.

As you ascend towards Manggis, you’ll pass a serene pond reflecting the lush greenery that envelops it. Further upward, the premise’s three-tiered layout comes into view, with Manggis proudly reigning at the summit.
Bliss Babe Café and Lanai Bamboo share this verdant space with Manggis, each with its unique charm, from cosy nooks to open-air terraces, inviting diners to revel in nature’s splendour.
But Manggis isn’t just a feast for the eyes – it’s a playground for the senses. The nearby garden, bursting with fragrant herbs and vibrant vegetables, adds a touch of rustic charm to the setting.
And just beyond, a small paddy field sways gently in the breeze. In the future, the restaurant plans to source its fresh produce from its own garden. Talk about going back to nature!

If you’re in the mood for adventure, there is plenty available. From archery to jungle trekking and target shooting, there’s no shortage of outdoor activities to partake in before or after your meal. Gather your friends or bring the family for a day of dining and outdoor escapades.
Manggis offers a simple menu consisting of pasta, salad, rice dishes and grilled meat. The Manggis fruit punch or fresh coconut is the best way to quench your thirst on a sunny afternoon.
The barbecued beef with black pepper sauce is definitely a standout here. Served atop a bed of vegetables, the beef is cooked to juicy tenderness. The homemade black pepper sauce packs a bold, peppery punch that transforms what could have been a simple beef dish to something quite heavenly.
The pan grilled smoked duck is another delight. This simple dish will tantalise your taste buds with its tender texture and smoky aroma that permeates through the meat. The homemade BBQ sauce generously drizzled on the meat adds an extra kick of sweetness and smokiness.

For a hearty yet simple meal, try the buttermilk tiger prawns. These prawns are bathed in a creamy buttermilk sauce, and served with crisp vegetables and fluffy rice. It does however lack a depth in flavour that would otherwise have made it truly impressive.
The same can be said of the American lamb shoulder with homemade BBQ sauce as well. And the toughness of the meat was another disappointing feature too.
Overall, Manggis offers a great escape from the city’s predictability, allowing you to immerse yourself in nature’s embrace. While the food may not steal the spotlight, the experience of dining surrounded by the forest is truly worth it.
