KUALA LUMPUR:
To most people, the name Tangkak may not ring any bells. But to local food lovers, this small town has one major claim to fame: it’s the birthplace of Tangkak beef noodles.

This hearty noodle dish, which comes in both dry and soup variations, has delighted countless diners over the years.

And now, Klang Valley foodaholics no longer need to make long trips down south for their beef noodle fix, as the Tangkak Beef Noodle House (TBNH) franchise has opened their latest outlet at Berjaya Times Square here.

This popular meaty dish actually has a rich history, going back to 1976. Local trader Au Ah Keong started a small food stall near the bus stop in Tangkak, basing it on a secret family recipe: a flavourful broth his grandfather used to cook.

The stall flourished, and the stall expanded into the renowned Kuang Fei restaurant, which is still going strong. It also gave rise to the franchise, primarily focused on mall expansion. Their Berjaya Times Square outlet is their second halal outlet.

“Upon launching our first halal outlet, Tangkak Beef Noodle House in Tropicana Gardens Mall last year, we saw a really encouraging response from customers,” said Au Ai Leen, company director and daughter of the company’s founder. Hence the decision to open their second halal outlet.

The other two outlets – both non-halal – are located in Kuchai Lama and Puchong Bandar Puteri.

Au said the outlets retained her father’s beloved secret recipe, although customers may experience slight variations depending on which outlet they ate at. To enhance customer enjoyment, they incorporated extra ingredients such as coriander and garlic in their preparations.

“We source all our ingredients meticulously ensuring that the highest standards of quality are met. Our beef consists mainly of Black Angus Beef and Australian Hereford Beef, from cattle bred and farmed at the highest animal welfare standards,” Au said.

Their latest outlet is a brightly-lit space with a cheerful ambiance and friendly staff. An abundance of earthy brown hues in its simple yet tasteful décor evokes a warm and homey atmosphere here.

Don’t leave without trying their signature dish: the Beef Noodles. Choose beef balls, stomach, tendons, tenderloin, money belly or other beef cuts to enjoy with your choice of homemade noodles, vermicelli, or rice. There’s probably every part of the cow represented here except the horns!

FMT Lifestyle’s recommendation is the Soup All Mix, the brand’s flagship dish. Its combination of various tastes and textures, complemented with its broth’s tangy herbs and spices, make every mouthful a joy to savour.

Of course, there’s more to this place than just beef noodles: its menu also has various other selections to enjoy.

One highlight is the Angus Beef Don, the brand’s take on classic Japanese beef-and-rice bowls such as gyudon. A finely-seasoned blend of egg, onions and beef make this a delectable treat which should have people asking for seconds.

And if you’re not in the mood for beef, you can order the simple yet satisfying Fish Noodle Soup.

If here with friends though, you might want to try their Hotpot Specials. Many tables here are equipped with induction stoves: heat your soup till it boils, throw in your favourite ingredients, and voila, you’ll soon have a meal on your hands!

All in all, there’s certainly much to enjoy at this eatery. It may not be exactly the same, eating this classic dish in a mall instead of a restaurant or by the street, but there’s still a lot to enjoy from their heartfelt take on beef noodles. Make sure to visit on an empty stomach!
