KUALA LUMPUR:
No matter how developed a city is, it’s always nice to have green spaces wherein citizens can unwind and take in some much-needed fresh air.

This is especially true in Malaysia, given how unbearably hot it can get. Thankfully, to get away from the heat and humidity, folks in Kuala Lumpur have the option of heading to Taman Tasik Titiwangsa.

Also known as Titiwangsa Lake Park, this 46.13ha space opened in February 1980. Apart from its temporary closure for about a year in 2019 for the “River of Life” beautification project, it has consistently drawn visitors from near and far, including nature lovers, health enthusiasts, and families looking to kick back and relax.

One of the main attractions is the beautiful lake located right near the entrance. Longtime KL folks would know it was previously a mining pond that has undergone an upgrade and is now surrounded by flowers and countless shady trees.

The upgrading works also saw a high fountain jet that shoots water up to 100m into the air. Amazing!

First-time park visitor Chethana A G, who hails from Sri Lanka, told FMT Lifestyle she was impressed by the scenery.

“A friend recommended this park to me, and it’s such a great place for me to read amid the pretty lake backdrop,” she said.

You can also find standard park facilities like jogging tracks, cycling trails, and various exercise equipment for an outdoor workout session here.

The lush green grass and trees allow you to enjoy a pleasant picnic on the grounds, which is precisely why Emily Ng brought her Taiwanese friend Austyne Lin for a day out.

“I came from Taipei, and except for maybe Daan Forest Park, it’s not really common there to have such a big park so close to the city. So, this is a nice sight to see,” Lin said with a smile.

If you’re worried your little ones will be bored, fret not: there are playgrounds for them to run around in and have a fun time with other kids!

Looking for the perfect way to cool down and escape the heat of the day? They will be thrilled to spend the day at the splash park.

“I bring my children here occasionally on weekends, to cycle or just spend time together as a family,” shared Ng.

“I also like that the park is so well-maintained and clean to ensure visitors have a good experience.”

On weekends and public holidays, members of the public are further able to go on horse-riding sessions at the stable located in the park.

Trainers are on hand to guide you (and the horse) around the paddock, making this an ideal activity even for those with no prior experience.

If you visit the park in the morning, you might even run into a KL City Hall officer on horseback patrol! Just be careful not to spook the horse, and do get the officer’s permission to pet the majestic ride.

Side note: horse-riding is temporarily unavailable until after Hari Raya, so do call 03-4022 5923 before visiting to avoid disappointment.

Of course, with such gorgeous scenery, few would be able to resist snapping a few – or, in all likelihood, many – photos!

With the city skyline that includes instantly recognisable silhouettes of the Petronas Twin Towers, KL Tower and Istana Budaya, you wouldn’t be faulted for embarking on a mini photoshoot here.

Finally, those who stay on well into the evening will be able to take in the beautiful sunset – yet another compelling reason to spend time at Titiwangsa Lake Park.
