Named after the Armenian Areni-1 cave complex – one of the world’s oldest wineries ever discovered – this charming wine cellar and bar opened its doors in October.
Areni was born out of co-founders Terence Fernandez and Karina Grewal’s profound love for vino, and their vision to cultivate a community that shares a passion for exceptional wines and warm hospitality.
“What you will get here are good, curated wines that you will not find in other restaurants and bars or on a supermarket shelf,” Fernandez shared with FMT Lifestyle.
“Even our menu consists of one wine per page, with accompanying information, and our staff will be able to guide you further. The intimacy of our venue, and the ability to understand what you’re enjoying, is what makes this space unique.”

Stepping into Areni is like entering a realm where time slows, the ambience a seamless blend of modern chic and the cosy charm of a European underground wine cellar.
Elegant furnishings and subtle lighting create a cosy setting, making thisthe perfect place for both a romantic evening or a casual get-together with friends.
“We weren’t trying to go bold and loud, where you walk in and are taken aback by neon lights and high-end finishes,” Fernandez pointed out. “Instead, we wanted to create this atmosphere where people can just relax and enjoy wine in a casual setting.”
To that end, the space offers versatility for various occasions, from an intimate dinner party in the dedicated dining room, to enjoying Cubans and a bottle of red in the chic cigar room.
For more intimate conversations, two private booths are available.

Areni serves a mix of Old World wines – those from winemaking regions with centuries of tradition such as Europe – as well as New World wines from places like Australia and New Zealand.
Here, the misconception that good wine must be expensive is challenged. With a commitment to guiding patrons, the selection process goes beyond a rack filled with hundreds of bottles.
Instead, the staff provide recommendations based on customer preference, lending a personalised touch to the experience.
One standout is the 2021 Malbec from Argentina’s Mendoza region. The Trapiche Broquel boasts the deep purple hue of red and black fruits, ruby glints, floral hints, earthy touches, and a smoky elegance. Expect rich, spicy flavours on the palate and a long, satisfying finish.
For a sweet and refreshing option, the Chablis by Domaine du Chardonnay – a renowned white wine from Burgundy, France – awaits. Relish its pale gold hue, vibrant citrus notes, and subtle floral undertones.

Areni features not only renowned labels but also hidden gems waiting to be discovered. The curation process allows both connoisseurs and newcomers to explore unique selections during each visit.
“We look out for wines that will pique the interest of our customers. Our aim is to get you to explore and try something new,” said Fernandez, who added that to facilitate this, the house pour also changes every month.
While cold cuts and cheese platters currently complement the wine offerings, Areni plans to expand its menu soon to include steaks, chicken and fish dishes, as well as tantalising small bites.
Overall, each sip, each nibble, and each moment at Areni invites you to indulge in the art of living well and embrace the finer things in life. Salut!
