PUCHONG:
If you ever need a quick cendol fix the next time you’re in Puchong, a roadside stall called “Deen Rojak Cendol” in Bandar Puteri Puchong is the spot to be.

On any given afternoon, residents of Puchong can be seen making their way to this stall, cosily tucked away under a bunch of shady trees, in search of a bowl of creamy and refreshing cendol.

Operating for the past 15 years, Mohan (not his real name), an Indian national originally from Thanjavur, operates the stall at the moment.

So, why is the cendol here worth trying? Well, Mohan uses only the freshest ingredients – coconut milk, palm sugar, cincau and green rice flour jelly.

However, the secret to the irresistible flavour of his cendol lies in the homemade palm sugar syrup he uses, which is boiled to perfection.

And if you have a sweet tooth, just ask Mohan for an extra scoop of palm sugar and he will happily oblige. Honestly, cendol with extra palm sugar is the only way to go. (You’re free to disagree).

You can also opt for cendol pulut if you desire an alternative to the traditional serving.

Mohan is best known among locals for his friendly and hospitable nature. He takes the time to converse with his customers and always greets them with a smile.

Obviously, no cendol experience is quite complete without a plate of equally sinful rojak.

The stall offers four varieties – rojak biasa, rojak mee, rojak sotong and rojak mee sotong.

The combination of sweet, sour, and spicy flavours in the thick rojak gravy complements the tofu, boiled egg, shredded cucumber, prawn fritters and fried dough fritters.

FMT Lifestyle recently had the chance to visit Deen Rojak Cendol and sample Mohan’s fare. Needless to say, it was lip-smacking.

The sweetness of the palm sugar syrup was complemented by the slight bitterness of the pandan and the creaminess of the coconut milk, resulting in a perfectly balanced bowl of cendol. And the ice was shaved nice and fine.

The rojak was also delicious with its sweet, savoury and spicy peanut gravy, as well as fresh cucumber and crispy fritters.

Overall, Deen Rojak Cendol is worth checking out. The food is tasty, the prices are affordable, and the service is outstanding.
