Badrul Muhayat had won the popular film actor award during Anugerah Bintang Popular BH in 1992.

His colleague, actress Aida Aris, said Badrul’s wife, Norhayati Zulkaply, informed her he did not respond when she tried to wake him at 10.50am.

“We then contacted the medical team who confirmed his death,” said Aida.

She said Badrul’s death came as a shock as he was considered to be healthy and did not suffer from any serious illness.

Aida said she and Badrul were in Penang as part of a business programme.

Badrul had just tied the knot with Norhayati in April. The couple had not had time to hold the reception, which was planned for the end of this year.

Badrul has two children, aged 14 and 16, from his previous marriage to Julia Daud.

Meanwhile, Seberang Perai Tengah police chief Tan Cheng San said Badrul’s remains were taken to Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post-mortem to find out the exact cause of death.
