5 Valentine’s date ideas that aren’t a candlelit dinner

It’s Valentine’s Day tomorrow and you forgot to make dinner reservations. No worries – there are other ways to be with your special someone.

So, it’s just dawned on you that Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and you’ve done absolutely nothing in the way of securing dinner reservations for two or buying roses for that special someone.

Instead of going out of your mind with worry, why not propose something unconventional but certainly memorable?

After all, Valentine’s Day may not be a public holiday, but it remains a special day for those in love. Here is a list of Valentine’s date ideas far removed from the commonplace dinner and movie options.

1. Go indoor skydiving

Want to experience an adrenaline rush with your partner minus the risk of plummeting to your doom? Well, you can enjoy the thrill of skydiving in absolute safety by going indoor skydiving, which is a thing funnily enough!

1 Utama Shopping Centre is home to WINDLAB Indoor Skydiving, which simulates a terrifying skydive of over 4km!

With an instructor to keep you safe during the simulation, you can expect to be sent flying upwards once you step into the vertical wind tunnel.

Sure, it might be a scary experience, but it’s also a good way to see whether you or your partner screams the loudest!

2. Enrol in a pottery class

Ah, to get down and dirty. With clay, of course! But seriously speaking, there’s nothing more romantic than participating in a shared activity with your date!

Why not consider a pottery class with A Touch of Clay and you will learn how to make your own ceramics with nothing but your bare hands and a spinning wheel.

It will be a good opportunity to learn a practical skill, all while spending time together with your beloved.

And if you’re fond of romantic keepsakes, you are allowed to take your sculpture back home with you, perfect for the memories!

3. Go roller-skating

What could be more memorable than a date where you manage to save your partner from a fall? That is, if you yourself aren’t falling on your face!

Once again, if you happen to be in close proximity to 1 Utama, you should head over for a go at roller-skating.

The mall happens to house Rollerwa, a South Korean indoor roller-skating rink where you can learn how to get fast on your feet.

Should you or your partner be K-pop fans, you will probably find yourself moving to the beat of the tunes blasting throughout the rink.

And it helps that the place is a visual delight to any aspiring Instagrammers, so get snapping while you zip around hand-in-hand!

4. Hang out in a board games café

What better way to spend Valentine’s Day than by conquering the world! In ‘Risk’, of course! And being a cutthroat landlord! In ‘Monopoly’, of course!

Once upon a time, playing boardgames was reserved for geeks and their ilk, but they have since become part of the mainstream.

Board game cafés are surprisingly not as sparse as one might think, in the Klang Valley at least, and they are great places to indulge your inner nerd.

Some of these spots also organise Boardgame Nights, and these are great events to have fun together with your significant other.

Keep away those smartphones and bury yourself in the cards instead, and maybe consider letting your partner win this round for a change!

5. Explore an escape room

Are you and your partner fond of mysteries and thrillers? Perhaps you watched “Squid Game” and thought to yourself, “I’d survive that.”

Well, if you think you are capable of getting out in one piece, perhaps spend your Valentine’s at one of the Klang Valley’s many escape roboms.

Escape rooms are indoor activity areas often themed around a mystery of some form, and participants have to solve puzzles to escape their captivity.

While a single person can join in the fun, escape rooms are best enjoyed in groups and of course, as a couple.

Test your sleuthing skills and see just how capable you or your partner are at solving the mystery at hand. Who’s going to be the smarty-pants of the couple?
