His plight was highlighted by FMT and, according to his mother Miyumi Nagami, 30, they received an unanticipated outpouring of support from Malaysians following the publicity.
“Malaysians have shown support for Jonah by buying cookies from his business Jonah Bakes. Many have written messages of support and shared their own stories with us. We’re very touched,” she told FMT.
A local church has been sponsoring Jonah’s education for the entire year of 2021.
“He enjoys school very much. However, most of his classes are conducted online since his movements are limited due to his condition.”
While things are looking bright for the plucky boy’s education, the outlook for his medical condition is less optimistic.

Seven-year-old Jonah suffers from skeletal dysplasia, a rare genetic disorder that develops in gestation and affects the bones and joints, hindering growth and development.
The disorder causes abnormally shaped bones, especially in the head, spine and the long bones of the arms and legs, making Jonah’s body extremely fragile.
“There hasn’t been much positive progress with his condition, and he recently developed a bone problem in his leg,” said Miyumi.
“Jonah fractured his shin, which then caused the bone to grow abnormally. He was in a cast for more than a month and couldn’t walk.
“The doctors are not exactly sure what to do about the fractured bones because Jonah is still a growing child.”

Jonah Bakes, launched last year, specialises in homemade gingerbread and chocolate chip ‘Happy Cookies’.
Despite his condition, Jonah is successfully building his business.
He is a talented baker and Miyumi helped him launch Jonah Bakes a year ago, which specialises in baking homemade gingerbread and chocolate chip “Happy Cookies”.
“We have received a lot of orders for Christmas this year,” Miyumi smiled. “Jonah has many loyal customers who regularly buy his cookies. We’re very thankful for that.”
It seems like Jonah Bakes is, as its slogan suggests, making the world a better place.
