Malaysian Automotive Association says the performance was better than February last year, with sales for both passenger and commercial vehicles increasing.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Vehicle sales in Malaysia rose 4.13% to 42,784 units in February this year, from 41,088 units in the same month last year, the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said.

In a statement today, it said sales of passenger vehicles increased to 37,923 units in February 2021 from 37,359 in February 2020 and sales of commercial vehicles rose to 4,861 units in the month under review from 3,729 units previously.

On a month-on-month basis, sales volume for February 2021 was 30% higher than January 2021 as traffic volume to showrooms improved after the lifting of the movement control order in certain states, it said.

In terms of total production, MAA said 45,199 vehicles were produced in February 2021 compared with 40,371 units in the same month last year.

It said the production of passenger vehicles increased to 41,301 units in February 2021 versus 37,893 in February 2020, while production of commercial vehicles also rose to 3,898 units from 2,478 units previously.

On the outlook for March 2021, MAA said it expects sales volume to be higher than in February as companies having their financial year ending March 31 rush for deliveries and the resumption of the Road Transport Department’s full services for all types of vehicle transactions.
