Bubbles, the sweet and sneaky ‘vacuum cleaner’

Having a great appetite, Bubbles loves to hide under the table at mealtimes and lap up any scraps of food she might find there.

Bubbles earned the moniker ‘vacuum cleaner’ due to her voracious appetite.

Three years ago, Thannya Laxhmi Rohan, 12, and her family walked into a pet store and immediately fell in love with a miniature toy poodle they saw there. It was pretty much love at first sight as she remembers it. They took that precious little bundle home and named her Bubbles.

It was a somewhat “uncomfortable” start for Bubbles when she first joined her new family – after all, she didn’t know where to poop or pee so kept it all in for as long as she could. However one day, it became painfully clear that Bubbles could not hold it in any longer.

Thannya remembers lying down on the sofa when she suddenly felt a warm stream of water trickle down her back. Startled, she shot upright and spotted Bubbles standing right beside her, looking rather guilty.

Well, it was obviously time for some serious potty-training and in the next few days, Thannya and others in her family did just that. Thankfully, there were no more such shocking mishaps ever again.

They also discovered that Bubbles had a voracious appetite. She’d eat almost anything she came into contact with including shreds of paper and plastic bottle covers.

A tad sneaky, Bubbles would secretly plant herself under the dining table at mealtimes, swooping down to lap up a grain of rice or if she was lucky, a morsel of meat if any were to fall by accident.

She soon earned the moniker “vacuum cleaner” for her valiant efforts in sweeping the floor clean of any shred of food.

When she isn’t eating or running in the park, Bubbles likes to catch up on her beauty sleep.

“Community service” aside, Thannya says Bubbles is one of the most caring and loving dogs the family has ever known.

She’s always there to greet any family member who walks in the door after a long day out, and will follow them around the house until they stop to pat her or pick her up for cuddles. She uses the same modus operandi when guests drop in. Or when you disappear for a few minutes upstairs… or visit the bathroom. You may have been gone for a short while but to Bubbles it’s almost an eternity.

Besides enjoying endless games of fetch with her toy burger and blue bouncy ball, Bubbles loves walking in the park and stopping to let others play with her. But when it’s time to go home, that’s when the real struggle starts.

The moment she realises they’re coming for her, Bubbles takes off like the wind, just slipping out of everyone’s reach. She’s a bit of a tease although she knows that in the end, the humans always win and she has to make the trek back home until the next time at the park.

Bubbles is not too proud to beg for pats on the head or warm cuddles from her human family or friends that drop by for a visit.
