Kagura’s halal Tokyo-style chicken ramen is truly delicious

This restaurant in Lot 10 offers a pork-free version of the famous Japanese soup-based dish with noodles.

Kagura’s Tokyo Chicken Ramen is truly delicious and best of all, it’s pork-free.

While the breath of Japanese cuisine has kept evolving in Malaysia, there’s a segment that alienates the majority of the population here.

You can find sushi, sashimi, and yakitori that suits the palate of almost everyone but when it comes to proper Japanese ramen, the pork-free or halal version is pretty hard to come by.

Kogura is situated in busy Lot 10 of Kuala Lumpur.

The good news is, Kagura at J’s Gate Dining in Isetan KL now serves up a hearty bowl of pork-free ramen that is truly mouthwatering.

Kagura Ramen hails from Tokyo, and goes by the name of Seimenka Kaguraya, and even back in Tokyo, the recipe has always been pork-free and lard-free. Rare but still pretty popular.

At Kagura’s, there’s a selection of different soup bases and ingredients. When it comes to proper Japanese ramen at these types of set-ups, it’s very competitively priced.

While the base is chicken, there’s a choice of shoyu, miso, or “rich” ramen. They also serve gyoza, fried rice, and a limited selection of tempura.

The shoyu and “rich” ramen together with dumplings truly rivals the pork-based version, and has leaves a slightly less greasy after-taste.

The restaurant also does a good job with its chicken-based char siew, but it must be said that the texture of pork char siew is still superior.

Overall, this was a surprising and delicious version of ramen that one can truly enjoy with no regrets.

The dumpling was sort of average however. Perhaps it’s the lack of fatty bits that made it fall short of expectations.

Fancy some dumplings with your ramen?

Skip the dumpling unless you’re very hungry, otherwise, this ramen is fit for anyone who loves this Japanese offering, even if you’re not specifically avoiding pork for whatever reason.
