Celebrate KL’s urban art culture at The LifeWire

Till July 28, visit The LifeWire for a truly unique shopping experience.

A total of 41,600 cranes of different hues hang from the skylight.

Do you know that in Japanese culture, the crane is regarded to be a mystical creature of sorts with a lifespan of a thousand years?

In all East Asian cultures, the crane is frequently used in art to represent good luck and prosperity.

The Japanese refer to them as “birds of happiness” and they are said to carry the souls of the dead to the heavens.

Beautifully-crafted hand phone cases are available.

So head on over to The LifeWire where you can not only shop for cute and artsy trinkets and decorations, but also take photographs of the 41,600 colourful origami cranes hanging above your head.

A four-day conceptual event by Pop Up, Link Up, this event at The LINC, Kuala Lumpur features art workshops, an exciting car meet and live gigs by local artists and bands.

The LifeWire aims to bring a casual urban shopping experience and strives to create a platform for local artisanal vendors.

Proceeds from the sale of these hand-crafted bags go to the Penans.

It is also meant to encourage Malaysians to appreciate art and culture through workshops, visual activations and other means.

As befitting an art fair, there are a variety of artisanal products on sale, ranging from pretty hand phone cases, scented soap bars and trendy shoes to tasty pies.

There were even car aficionados’ meet-ups featuring two of Malaysia’s most active car groups, the Volkswagen Owners Club Malaysia and the Breakfast Club.

Trendy footwear fans are likely to find something to suit their tastes.

Besides window shopping, members of the public can also have a hands-on experience by participating in a Decopatch workshop presented by Cziplee, the well-known stationery shop.

And while all this is going on, be serenaded by the soothing tunes from live performances by Malaysia’s own local acts, including Darren Teh from An Honest Mistake, Amrita Soon, Nicholas Sia and many more great talents.

The Decopath stall holds workshops for paper mache animals.

Organised by International Advertising, Communication and Technology College (IACT) students as a final year project, you will find something to cater for your taste at The LifeWire.
