‘Twilight’ star Robert Pattinson is in final negotiations to play Batman in DC’s upcoming superhero film for Warner Bros. Other names eyed for the role are Armie Hammer, Nicholas Hoult and Aaron-Taylor Johnson.
Reeves, director of ‘Cloverfield’ and the two recent ‘Planet of the Apes’ films, revised his script towards a younger Bruce Wayne after original star and director Ben Affleck bowed out of the project. While the plot is under wraps, Reeves told The Hollywood Reporter in January, ‘You can’t have Batman without a villain. There will be a rogues gallery.’
Reeves will produce The Batman with his Planet of the Apes collaborator Dylan Clark.
The 32-year-old Pattinson, who gained immense popularity after the ‘Twilight’ franchise’s success, has ventured into smaller independent and art-house features as of late, such as ‘Good Time’, ‘The Rover’, and the recent ‘High Life’ from French filmmaker Claire Denis. He will next be seen in an upcoming film from ‘The Dark Knight’ filmmaker Christopher Nolan.
The Batman is set for a June 25, 2021, release.
