Following several cryptic teaser videos, Tyler, the Creator has officially announced his upcoming new studio album, “IGOR.”
On Monday, Tyler, the Creator also shared on Twitter two album covers – one of which was created by American illustrator Lewis Rossignol. Although details about the LP are still scarce, it is set for release on May 17 via Columbia.
“IGOR” will be Tyler, the Creator’s sixth studio album, following his 2017 “Flower Boy.”
Rumours of a new LP sparked after a financial report by Sony leaked – where Tyler was listed under the section “Noteworthy projects for the quarter ending June 30, 2019.”
The rapper has been quite prolific in the past few months, releasing his “Music Inspired by Illumination & Dr Seuss’ The Grinch” EP in November. He has also shared several one-off tracks, such as “OKRA,” “435,” and “Peach Fuzz.”
Though his last LP was critically acclaimed, Tyler, the Creator has been vocal about taking his music to the next level. In an August cover story for GQ Style, he revealed that he hopes to get more radio play.
“I haven’t been super successful with that, but that time will come. If it’s not the next album, then it’s the three after that,” he explained.
“It’s still a piece of me that not only wants to be on the radio, but it’s probably some 11-year-old in the middle of f**king nowhere who might hear a song, look me up, get introduced to a whole world – and that could change everything he’s into for the rest of his life.”
