KOTA KINABALU:
Claudia Yang, a Malaysia-born pianist based in Beijing, may have held concerts around the world, but told reporters that performing in Sabah in July will be a special honour.

“The performance is part of a celebration to mark 45 years of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China,” she said during a press conference yesterday.

Although a date and venue have yet to be set, the excited musician said Sabah was selected for the concert with an 80-member symphony orchestra from Guangxi, China, because it is a renowned tourist destination and well-liked by those from China.

Yang was in Kota Kinabalu to meet Sabah Deputy Chief Minister and Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, Christina Liew, to discuss the performance.

Liew said Yang’s concert will be a special experience for Sabahans and a good starting point for cultural exchanges between the two countries.

“I will ask for local musicians to be part of the concert,” she said.
