The Spice Market Cafe located at the Garden Wing of Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa in Penang is a gastronomic adventure for even the most picky eater.

Dinner is on from 6.30pm to 10.30pm every day and it’s an all-you-can-eat affair. A little on the pricey side, it is after all a buffet that offers the biggest selection of dishes on the island.

You have a choice of either indoor dining or alfresco dining, right next to the unique free-form swimming pool surrounded by a huge garden with a giant Rain Tree by the beach.

The dishes include authentic ethnic cuisines from diverse cultures – including Chinese (with a chef from China churning out freshly made “knife slice noodles”), Indian, Nyonya, Japanese, Thai, Malay, and Western.

One must-try dish in particular is the slipper lobster that you can enjoy either cooked plain or doused in sauce. The sashimi, roast beef, and snow crab are also to die for.

If you have a thing for cheese, their selection is rather outstanding so you won’t be in the least bit disappointed.

One dish that stood out though was their deep-fried soft-shell crab. Their preparation of this delicacy had just the right amount of seasoning that made it truly memorable.

If you try just a spoonful of each dish, you’ll probably still need at least several visits before you can finally say you’ve sampled everything – that’s how wide and diverse the selection is.
