Taking centre stage is Rozellla, who will speak about her struggles as a teen growing up with a birth mark on her face and how she learned the hard way to develop a positive body image and love herself.
“I was like every other frustrated teen and I took the easy way out by trying to numb my feelings with alcohol; a temporary cure to my pain,” she said.
She recently collaborated with international brand Chvrches, to further promote the idea that people should be more accepting of their bodies, flaws and all.
In 2015, Rozella started a social photography project called True Complexion, that highlighted the stories of individuals who achieved success in life despite facing unimaginable adversities.
The other speaker at the event is John Payne, who is actively fighting to save the Sumatran Rhino, a critically endangered species, from extinction.
Married to a local and living in Sabah for 40 years, Payne is looking at the latest in advanced reproductive technology to help reproduce baby Sumatran Rhinos.
“It’s sad to know that beautiful animals like these rhinos are least cared for in this age of technological advancement,” Payne said.
“I’m here to be the voice of this ancient species, to the few remaining Sumatran Rhinos. We need to look to the latest science for answers on how to prevent their extinction,” he added.
The two speakers from Borneo hope to enlighten the younger generation on how to appreciate themselves more as well as why it is important to value the lives of other species in the world as well.
