Letshanaa, who is world No 30, gave China’s fourth-ranked Chen Yu Fei a run for her money by taking the first game before losing 21-19, 15-21, 17-21 in 66 minutes.
World No 47 men’s singles shuttler Justin started off against the world No 4 Frenchman Christo Popov by taking the first game, but the latter eventually won 13-21, 21-18, 21-14 in a match that lasted about an hour.
Yesterday, Jun Hao lost to the lower-ranked Lee Chia Hao of Taiwan 21-18, 20-22, 8-21 while Ling Ching lost to Japan’s Riko Gunji 20-22, 17-21.
Malaysian players in all three doubles categories will be playing their opening matches later today.
