Aaron-Wooi Yik fail to make all-Malaysian semis at Hylo Open

The world No 2 duo fell to an Indonesian pair at the quarter-finals after compatriots Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun had booked a last four spot earlier.

PETALING JAYA:
National men’s doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik failed to set up an all-Malaysian semi-final at the Hylo Open in Germany after losing to Indonesian rivals Gutama Sabar Karyaman-Reza Pahlevi Isfahani in the last eight.

Earlier, compatriots Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun qualified for the semi-finals after defeating another Indonesian pair, Fajar Alfian-Shohibul Fikri, in straight games in the championships being played in Saarbrucken.

In tonight’s tie, world No 2 pair Aaron-Wooi Yik lost despite winning the first game easily and leading comfortably at 12-8 in the decider. They finally lost 21-11, 14-21, 17-21 in 55 minutes to the Indonesian duo whom they had beaten in the quarter-final clash at the French Open last week.

This is their second loss to the Indonesians in their three encounters so far.
