HANGZHOU:
Latif Romly, winner of two Paralympic gold medals, added another feather to his cap by winning the men’s T20 (intellectual impairment) long jump gold medal at the Asian Para Games (APG) today.

The multiple world record holder in the event, jumped 7.18m to bag Malaysia’s fourth gold medal at the Games and the second for the national athletics camp.

Latif won an unprecedented third consecutive gold medal to complete a hattrick at the APG.

The 2016 and 2020 Paralympics gold medallist cleared 7.18m in his fourth attempt while teammate Zulkifly Abdullah managed a bronze with a distance of 6.48m at the Huanglong Sports Centre Stadium.

Saudi Arabia’s Hassan Nasser Dawshi took silver with an effort of 6.80m.

“I am grateful and happy to have won gold for the third consecutive Games but I didn’t expect to do so. I was only performing at 50% because I was saving myself for two major competitions next year, namely the World Championships and Paralympics in Paris,” he said.
