Rosdiana Abdul Rahim, 33, was also ordered to pay the victim S$2,500 in compensation or serve another 11 days jail in default, according to a report in Channel News Asia. Rosdiana was previously convicted on six charges, including insulting the maid’s modesty, using criminal force, causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
The court heard that the victim, now 21, had come to Singapore from Indonesia in September 2017 and was tasked with caring for Rosdiana’s household, including watching over her twins, and children in Rosdiana’s mother’s home.
The litany of abuses, the maid told the court, included not being allowed to take a nap, being given irregular rest times and not being paid for about three months.
Once, complaining that she was smelly, Rosdiana dragged the maid to the toilet and sprayed water on her before asking her to undress. When Rosdiana’s husband entered the bedroom and the victim tried to cover herself, Rosdiana told the maid that her husband “would not be interested”, according to the CNA report.
The victim claimed that she was not given a proper place to sleep and that her employer had thrown away some of her clothes saying these were smelly.
On another occasion, the report said, Rosdiana pinched the victim’s breast while her husband was around. When the maid tried to cover herself, Rosdiana told the maid that her husband would not be interested as the victim’s breast was “small, unlike hers”.
She then kicked the victim twice in the groin, knocking her backwards and causing her to hurt her back. She also slammed a cupboard door on the victim’s arm, CNA reported.
A day later, the maid said, Rosdiana and her husband dropped her off at the entrance of her maid agency. She then lodged a police report against Rosdiana.
