In a statement issued today, TMG Ventures Sdn Bhd (TMGV), the new owner of Mikey’s Original New York Pizza and NY Burger Co, said it will also bring The Big Apple’s famed 18-inch pizza and hearty burgers to the Malaysian consumer.

The acquisition comes on the heels of the sealing of a strategic partnership between Pernas and TMGV to boost the local food and beverage and franchise industries.

TMGV executive chairman Subahan Kamal noted that the acquisition of the two US companies was among the first successes in its partnership with Pernas to promote the growth of brands with a good potential for franchising.

Among other restaurant chains in the TMGV stable are recently acquired The Majapahit, a fine-casual restaurant that serves Southeast Asian cuisine, Las Vegas-born Japanese fusion restaurant Tail and Fin and Wings of the World, which serves chicken wings.

Citing data from the Franchise Business Annual Report, the TMGV statement said the sales value of franchise companies in Malaysia rose 9.7% to RM14.6 billion in 2020 from RM13.3 billion in 2019. In 2018, the total sales amounted to RM11.16 billion.
